Project Highlight: Still the Birds Art for Darryl Purpose CD

This is my artwork used for the Darryl Purpose CD cover.

Still the Birds acrylic painting

You can read more about the story behind the artwork over on my blog at Art by Lindy.

The art direction, design and layout of the CD is by A Man Called Wrycraft (Michael Wrycraft).

Michael did a nice job implementing the art into the design.

Project Highlight: enough! The Companion Workbook Design

Laurie McCammon, the author of the book enough! asked me to not only do the background art for the enough! companion workbook but also the design of it.

She wanted it to go with her book enough! so I made similar background colors and shading and then added my artwork so that they would go together. Laurie wanted 9 feathers in a circle so I took my own photographs of feathers to create a mandala of feathers. The circle format symbolizes women’s circles and also the 9 women who added input to the workbook.

Choosing a Graphic Designer to Work With

I think it’s important to choose a graphic designer to work with after you’ve talked to a minimum of three designers. Graphic Designers vary in their business practices, rates, design style and the way they work with a client. You’ll want to find someone who you connect with and will listen to your needs.

How do you find a graphic designer in your area? You can check with your local Chamber of Commerce where they have listed professionals in your area on their website or in their membership directory/catalog.

You can also go online and do a search with Google or go to Manta.com to find local businesses.

There are websites that allow you to make a proposal and have designers bid for your job. One such website is  Thumbtack.com

From their site:

  • We’ll identify verified service pros based on your specific needs. Available service pros will submit quotes for you to compare
  • You choose and hire the service pro that’s right for you
  • At Thumbtack, we understand that hiring service professionals requires a high degree of trust. This is why we go out of our way to make sure that our community is held to the highest standards and that you have all the tools you need to feel comfortable hiring someone online.
  • Thumbtack helps you get the job done at the time and place you want, with someone you know you can trust.

I like that you can find a variety of local professionals in all kinds of categories. There are legal services, events, home and health services, lessons & classes, writing as well as web and tech services which includes graphic design.

Another website is mineeds.com

Hope this helps!
