Project Highlight: Still the Birds Art for Darryl Purpose CD
This is my artwork used for the Darryl Purpose CD cover.
You can read more about the story behind the artwork over on my blog at Art by Lindy.
The art direction, design and layout of the CD is by A Man Called Wrycraft (Michael Wrycraft).
Michael did a nice job implementing the art into the design.
I was very happy to provide the artwork for this amazing musician’s CD!

Project Highlight: enough! The Companion Workbook Design
Laurie McCammon, the author of the book enough! asked me to not only do the background art for the enough! companion workbook but also the design of it.
She wanted it to go with her book enough! so I made similar background colors and shading and then added my artwork so that they would go together. Laurie wanted 9 feathers in a circle so I took my own photographs of feathers to create a mandala of feathers. The circle format symbolizes women’s circles and also the 9 women who added input to the workbook.

Project Highlight: Rumi Flute Commissioned Painting and CD Jacket Design
I love sharing what I do and my process. I especially wanted to highlight a recent CD design job for my wonderful client, L.A. latin jazz flutist, Rumi Flute.
Rumi found me by doing a Google search on “colorful art” and “tropical art.” This is a good reminder to do some effective SEO (search engine optimization) for your website and images. BTW if you need help with that, please contact me.
In Rumi’s search, she found some of my colorful images from my fine art website artbylindy.com and my Etsy Shop where I sell colorful wall art.
Rumi contacted me and said that she would like to have me do a commissioned painting that would be used on her new CD. I was thrilled to create a painting for her. I also let her know that I was a graphic designer and I could do both her painting and her CD jacket design. I created a proposal that fit within Rumi’s budget and the work was began.
This is my favorite type of project where I can combine my graphic design skills with my fine art.
I asked Rumi to describe what she was looking for and to pick out some of her fav images from my Etsy Shop so I could get a feel for what she liked. She sent me 4 images and why she was attracted to them. This helped me a lot to get a feel for the style and content she was attracted to. I also asked her to give me a few words to describe the feel of the painting and CD design she was looking for. We also talked about her audience and who would be purchasing her CD.
I completed the painting within two weeks and then started on the CD design.
I wanted it to have a colorful, tropical and world music feel. So I used some of the colors from the photo of Rumi that I was given and I added some texture to the background. Then to keep with the tropical theme, I added a simple pink flower accent. I loved the gradation of the blue to bluish-green color I added which also gave it a tropical feel.
Rumi was very happy with the way the painting and CD turned out and I think if fit many of the words used to describe the feel of the piece – colorful, natural, simple, tropical, world music, improvisation, rhythmic, fresh.
Congratulations to Rumi on her new CD! You can visit Rumi’s website at http://www.rumiflute.com/
